Drunk driver found asleep on busy road with foot on the brake

New Year’s Day Lytle PD officer Cpl. Robison and Chief Richie Priest were flagged down around 1 PM about a vehicle stopped in the roadway on the access road. “We were on a busy road and with it being New Year’s Day there was a lot of traffic,” said Lytle Police Chief Richie Priest. It happened on the access road of IH-35 (southbound side) near the FM 3175 underpass.
“The guy was passed out behind the wheel with the vehicle running, transmission in drive, and his foot on the brake. He was parked, a dead stop, a little out of his lane closer to the middle of the road. It was a small car and the rear window was down but we couldn’t get the door open.”
“Ofc. Antuna climbed through the window and put the vehicle in park. The driver was arrested for DWI and a potentially deadly situation was averted.”
Sobering Fact: A NHTSA study revealed every day, almost 29 people in the United States die in alcohol-impaired vehicle crashes—that’s one person every 50 minutes in 2016. Think before you drink and drive.
