Doyle Burke Horton, age 89 of Castroville, passed away May 5, 2017 in San Antonio. Doyle was born August 30, 1927 in Altus, Oklahoma to parents Arthur T. and Odessa Johnson Horton.
On October 11, 1945 he married Inez Ruby Hunt in Porterville, California. They were the parents of five children. Doyle was a great husband and father. He provided for his family and gave them everything they ever wanted.
Doyle served in the Merchant Marines and then joined the United States Air Force. He retired from the military in 1975 after serving his country for 27 years. After his military career, he attended St. Mary’s University and received a BS in Education. He then began his second career as a teacher in San Antonio and at Medina Valley Elementary School La Coste campus.
After his second retirement, Doyle loved to take care of his pecan trees and enjoyed living in his home in the country near Castroville.
In addition to his parents, Arthur and Odessa Horton, Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Ruby Hunt Horton; son, Terry Wayne Horton; daughters, Barbara Jane Aldrich and Dianna Joyce Horton; sisters, Mary Nell Rose and Rozella Horton and granddaughter, Jodi Aldrich.
Survivors include his children, Janice (Charlie) Hierholzer of San Antonio and Doyle B. (Terri Elaine) Horton, Jr. of Crest View, FL; son-in-law, Val Aldrich of San Antonio; grandchildren, Inez (John) Kruithof, Jarrett Aldrich, Julie Horton, Terry W. Horton, Jr. and Doyle B. Horton III; six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with military honors. Services will conclude at the funeral home. Interment will take place later in the Castroville Community Cemetery.
