Current Events Club Charity Ball a huge success

Sabrina Guerra, seen with members of the Current Events Club, won the drawing for a 65″ LG Color Smart TV.

The February meeting of the Current Events Club was held in the home of Alma Horvath. After refreshments, Sylvia Acosta and Terri Besa, of Twisted Sisters Vintage Market, located at 202 South Teel Drive, told members all about their unique shop.
The program, Theatre in San Antonio, was presented by Kay Shultz. Members received updates on the proceeds from the annual fundraiser. The amount of profit from the drawing for a 65” LG Color Smart TV, was $2,303.57. This money will be used for local scholarships and donations to local charities and organizations.
Congratulations to Sabrina Guerra whose name was drawn at the Valentine Charity Ball as the winner of the 65” TV.
The Charity Ball was successful, making $3,558.22 from ticket sales, the silent auction and a Split the Pot. Club members and 20 sponsors donated items for the silent auction. Thank you to all who participated in and donated to the event. All proceeds will be used for scholarships and local charitable organizations.
The Club voted to provide the Devine High School FCCLA Club with $400 to be used for expenses for their state competitions.
The Club plans to award two $1,000 scholarships to Devine High School Seniors.
Wings and Reins will receive $500 from the Club for their mission of providing a caring, safe and positive environment for equines that have been neglected, abandoned or abused.
For the annual theater outing, twenty-four club members and guests attended ”Little Women” the musical, at the Public Theater of San Antonio on Sunday afternoon, February 18.
After the meeting, club members assembled 70 Valentine gift bags for residents of the Devine Convalescent Center.
