Charles E. Ebrom

Charles Edwin Ebrom, age 85, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Charles was born in San Antonio in 1931 to parents, Edward J. and Mary (Klimitchek) Ebrom. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and received his BBA degree from St. Mary’s in Accounting in 1952, and his JD degree in 1963, from St. Mary’s University. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the US Army in the Army Audit Agency where he had assignments in New York City, Iceland, and other locations.
In January 1956, he joined the accounting firm of Ernst & Ernst at its offices in San Antonio, Texas. Leaving as an Audit Manager in 1965 to join H. B. Zachry Company in the position of Tax Manager. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1968 and served as Comptroller, Treasurer, and ultimately Executive Vice President. He found joy in his work, continuing to go into the office until the end of his life. He was immensely grateful to Bartell Zachry. He has served as a Trustee of St. Mary’s University and the Jurica Trust, on the boards of the Alamo Bowl and the San Antonio Sports Foundation, and other organizations. As a Certified Public Accountant and Attorney, he was a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Texas and American Bar Associations. He was actively involved with the Associated General Contractors of America Tax Committee. An avid Spurs fan, he loved the team and enjoyed working with the Spurs organization as a representative of the Zachry family on the Spurs Board of Directors.
Charlie married the love of his life, Betty in 1962. True partners in every aspect of their lives, they lived life to the fullest – treasured time with family, active in the community, faithful Catholics, avid travelers enjoying trips including Europe, Asia, South America, and the Holy Land. One of the greatest joys in his life was being able to take his children and grandchildren on trips including Alaska, Hawaii, China, and throughout Europe. Charlie grew up in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church serving as an altar boy in his youth and financially supporting the parish later in life. Betty and Charlie were active, practicing Catholics; members of the Knights of St. Gregory and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
He was predeceased by his brother, Herman.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty (Bohl); daughters, Kelly Ebrom Kennedy and husband, Kevin, Lisa Ebrom, Christy Ebrom and fiancé Dan Henley; grandchildren Charles Patrick, Joan Elizabeth and Katherine Anne Kennedy, sisters, Sister John Martin Ebrom, Evelyn Dreitner; sister-in-law Adilene Bohl; many, many friends and colleagues.
The Ebrom family would like to express gratitude to Alejandra and Maria for their wonderful and loving care that they gave to Charlie. He was a patriot; generous, loyal, dedicated family man and friend. This brilliant, humble, loved, gracious man will be missed.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, Tx. Rosary is Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Porter Loring chapel. Mass is Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 623 East Commerce.
