Charles D. Whitaker

Charles D. Whitaker

It is with great sadness we announce that Charles D. Whitaker, 62, of Devine, passed away, Friday, September 29, 2017. He was born June 21, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas, to Ray and Ruth Whitaker who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife Debbie Meyers; his children, Kimberly Whitaker of Devine; Daniel “Neal” (Lindsay) Meyers of Portsmouth, Cathy (Rick) Gish of Schertz; Marshal (Heather) Whitaker of Devine, and Nathan Meyers of Devine. Also surviving are his grandchildren Colton Gish, Kaylee Gish, and Connor Meyers, which he loved dearly.
Charlie, as he was known to most people, was a long time resident of Devine where he lived since his parents purchased land here in 1957. He graduated from Devine High School in 1973 and followed in his father’s construction footsteps, where he applied his work ethic that any job worth doing, was worth doing right.
Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by so many people. Those who knew him know how much of a caring and hard working person he was. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping which of course were a family affair and also loved his dogs, which were family too, not pets.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 22 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Devine VFW Hall, 211 W College Ave, Devine, TX 78016, where family and friends will celebrate Charlie’s life. Refreshments generously provided by his sister Cynthia (Richard) Sultenfuss will be served directly following the memorial.
The family wishes to thank the Methodist Hospital System for their care and compassion they treated Charlie and the family with. They went above and beyond with their treatment and it is much appreciated.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make donations to your preferred animal rescue, stroke/heart research or cancer research foundation.
