For the second year the Current Events Club is excited to bring the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program to Devine Evergreen and St. Joseph Catholic cemeteries. This year’s ceremony and placement of wreaths on veteran graves will take place on Saturday morning, December 16, at 11:00 o’clock at the ceremony oak where the event was held last year. Join us as we participate in a program that spans across our nation and around the globe to honor our men and women in the armed forces.

TWRI Stakeholder Meeting Oct. 19th in Castroville

The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) is hosting the first in a series of stakeholder meetings for anyone interested in becoming involved in a partnership to improve and protect the Lower Medina River watershed on October 19th.

Class of 1963 Reunion Brunch Oct. 14th

The 1963 class of Devine High is holding a reunion brunch on Saturday, October 14th, of the full reunion. Brunch will be held at Charlie’s Daughter Restaurant at 10 AM. All whoever attended with our class are included and spouses. Please RSVP at maryruth3719@gmail.com or 512-415-8959.

Southwest Texas Soil Testing Campaign to be held Oct. 16 – Nov. 2

There is a Southwest Texas Soil Testing Campaign for Dimmit, Frio, Kinney, Medina, Uvalde and Zavala Counties from October 16th thru November 2nd. Samples will be collected during this time, landowners may pick up soil sample bags, instructions, and forms at their local County Extension office. Cash only as payment when soil samples are dropped off.

AgriLand Workshop in Comal County on Oct. 24

We are now holding an AgriLand Workshop in Comal County at the Westside Community Center and Public Library, 2932 S IH 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130 on October 24, 2023.
Pre-registration is required and is OPEN online at www.alamorcd.org. We work to provide this service opportunity to all within the agricultural and environmental community in our area.

St. Matthias Annual Blessing of the Animals

Everyone is invited to bring your pet(s) to be individually blessed, Saturday, October 7th, 10:30am – 12pm, in the parking area of St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church, 901 N. Teel Dr. Visitors and pets will remain in their vehicles as the pets are blessed. Our Annual Blessing of the Animals is in honor of the Patron Saint of animals, St. Francis of Assisi. City-WideGarage Sale

The City of Devine is hosting their City-Wide Garage Sale/Yard Sale on one day only, Saturday October 21, 2023. On this day only, the permit fees will be waived by the City; therefore, no permit is required.
So, mark your calendars and get ready for the city-wide garage sale on Saturday October 21, 2023 and make sure to get your yard sale in the Devine News Classified Ad Section.

Texas Watershed Steward Workshop in Castroville Nov. 9th

On November 9th, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a free Texas Watershed Steward workshop in Castroville. Water quality related to the Medina River, along with land and watershed management, will be discussed. Topics will include water quality, water quality law, agricultural and urban best management practices, hydrology, and others. The event and its available continuing education credits are free and open to the public. Pre-registration link provided below.
The professional continuing education credits offered are applicable to, but are not limited to, Texas Department of Agriculture private pesticide license holders (3 general CEUs), professional engineers, AICP certified planers, professional geoscientists, certified teachers, certified floodplain managers, certified crop advisors, and select TCEQ occupational license holders.
The Texas Watershed Steward workshop will take place from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 9th at the Braden Keller Community Center, located at 1410 Amelia Street, Castroville, TX 78009.
