Campos places 7th in State discus

Stephanie Campos took 7th place in the State discus competition.

Devine Arabian Stephanie Campos got out of the gates quickly with her first discus throw landing 120’2” from the circle. That first throw wound up being Stephanie’s best throw out of the 6 that she attempted last Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus and gave her a 7th place State finish for Class 4A.
Discus Coach Devin Rotramel, “The pressure may have gotten to Stephanie a little bit. She threw a good throw of over 120 feet on her first attempt but faltered some after that. I am proud of her accomplishments throughout her career.”
Stephanie’s state qualification ended a long dry spell for the Devine Arabian throwers. The last Arabian thrower, Shot Put or Discus, to qualify was Lorraine Velasquez back in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s. Lorraine advanced in 1989, 1990, and 1991 with her best finish coming in 1990 at 6th place.
Final results: 1st-Ebony Wolridge-Giddings-138’7”; 2nd-Lauryn Dixon-Princeton-138’5”; 3rd-Abigail Flores-Grulla-127’10”; 4th-Carlie Roberts-Big Spring-127’4”; 5th-Jada Garrett-Rusk-124’7”: 6th-Elena Reagan-Celina-124’0”; 7th-Campos-Devine-120’2”; 8th-Nadine Arredondo-Stephenville-115’4”; 9th-Alyssa Dickerson-Huntington-113’10”.
