Beatrice “Betsy” Blanche Christilles Lagleder

Beatrice “Betsy” Blanche Christilles Lagleder, age 89, passed away on October 13, 2018 with her family at her side at her home in Castroville. She was born March 27, 1929 in La Coste, the second daughter of Daniel and Otilia “Tillie” Hartman Christilles. Betsy graduated from La Coste High School in 1947, where she was a cheerleader. While in high school, she worked part-time as a telephone switchboard operator for the La Coste Telephone Company. She also worked as a linotype operator at the La Coste Ledger weekly newspaper and print shop, part-time during high school, and then full time for three years.
On August 5, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Louis Lagleder. Louis was drafted into the Army on December 7, 1950, and was stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. After Louis completed his basic training, Betsy joined him and they lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas until October, 1951 when Louis was transferred to Indiana. After Louis and Betsy returned to live in La Coste, Betsy devoted her attention to her family, as a loving wife and mother to their six children. Throughout the years, she provided unconditional love and support to her family, welcoming 13 grandchildren and eventually many more great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Tillie Christilles; sister, Catherine Whitehead, brother James Christilles and brother-in-law, Ernest Gesch.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Louis Lagleder of Castroville; children, Grady (Marcella) Lagleder of Rio Medina, Mark (Donna) Lagleder of Boerne, Laurie (Eddie) Stecker of Castroville, Linda (Glendon) Boehme of Rio Medina, Jean (James) Ferry of The Woodlands and Kathy Lagleder of Castroville; grandchildren, Emily (Brad) Axsom, Jamey (Michael) Leeber, Mary Lagleder, Amy (Evan) Moores, Laura (Mateo) Clarke, Lacy (Dewane) Schott, Leslie (Eric) Davis; Tricia (Dustin) Plate, Mitchel (Jennifer) Boehme, Michael Boehme, Michael Ferry, Katie Ferry and Kendall Lagleder; 13 great-grandchildren with three more on the way; sister, Joan Gesch; in-laws, Shirley Christilles; Ray (Mary) Lagleder, Sr., George (Patsy) Lagleder; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from at 4:00 to 5:30 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 7:00 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church. The Holy Rosary will be recited Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Betsy’s memory to St. Louis Catholic School or the charity of your choice.
