Arabians named to TGCA All-State, All Star teams

Four Arabians were named to TGCA All-State teams.

Four Devine Arabian Volleyball players and Coach Leigh Anne McIver received some recognition and awards recently from the Texas Girls Coaching Association (TGCA).

Senior Addie Trojanowski was named to the TCGA 4A All-State team, TGCA Legacy All Star team, and TGCA 4A Academic All-State.

Senior Addie Trojanowski was chosen TGCA 4A All State, TGCA Legacy All Star Team, and TGCA 4A Academic All State. “Being named to the All State Team, Legacy Team and Academic All State team is no easy task but Addie made it look easy!” said Coach McIver. “Addie plays way bigger than her height. She could easily dominate the game when she was in front row and really controlled the offense when she was setter. She placed the ball where the hitters needed it to be so they could be successful.”

Senior Makenna Morales was named TAVC 4A Defensive Player of the Year.

Senior Makenna Morales was chosen as TAVC 4A Defensive Player of the Year. “Makenna is very deserving of this award! I feel like she has gotten overlooked at times but this one solidifies what we have all known, that she is THE best back row player and can dominate the back row making the other teams really have to fight to earn points. She just has that natural ability to read the ball and be in the right spot and the right time,” said McIver. “She really controlled the game on defense and serve receive and allowed us to be able to run an up tempo offense from all 3 positions. I am excited to watch Makenna continue her volleyball career at the next level and still dominate the back row.”

Senior Chesney Friesenhahn earned TGCA Academic All-State recognition.

Senior Chesney Friesenhahn earned TGCA Academic All State recognition. “Chesney: Chesney is a great leader on the court and in the classroom. It takes a lot of discipline to excel in both areas,” said Coach McIver. “She was an important part of our success this year and I am looking forward to seeing her continue her volleyball career at the next level and excelling on that level.”

Junior Sierra Pompa was named to the TGCA Blue All-Star team.

Junior Sierra Pompa was named to the TGCA Blue All-Star team for 1A-4A and will play in the game in Arlington on July 10th. “I am very proud of Sierra for getting chosen to play in the All Star game. She really stepped up her game this year for us and became that dominate hitter I knew she could be since 7th grade. To the see the growth in Sierra has been amazing,” said McIver. “This is a great opportunity for Sierra to play with some of the best players in the state of Texas from 1A – 4A schools. I know that she is going to be a great representative for our program and community in Arlington.”
Coach Leigh Anne McIver was chosen as an Assistant Coach for the TGCA red all Star team for 1A-4A. “I was very surprised to be named the All Star assistant coach, it was definitely something that I was not expecting. It will be different being on the opposite side of the net from Sierra in July but I am glad that we are going to be able to enjoy the experience together,” said McIver. “The game is for juniors only. It used to be for seniors but a lot of the seniors were already enrolled in college and training for the upcoming season when the game is and plus there was something to do with college recruiting during that time. The game is at the same time. I can’t coach Sierra because of her still having HS eligibility left in volleyball so I have to be an assistant coach for the other team. So we will be on opposite sides of the net!” said Coach Leigh Anne McIver.
TCGC All-State Teams
The Texas Girls Coaches Association selects All-State teams for volleyball in conferences 1A-6A. Athletes are nominated by member coaches and selected by the TGCA Volleyball All-State Committee at their meeting during the UIL State Volleyball Tournament. The head varsity coach of any athlete selected must be a member of TGCA in good standing. Athletes may be selected from any grade level from 9-12. Up to forty (40) athletes per conference may be selected.
Legacy All-Star Selections
TGCA selects a maximum of 20 All-Stars, from conferences 1-4a and 5-6a in volleyball. These athletes are selected by the TGCA Volleyball Committee, which is composed of volleyball member coaches of the association, at their annual meeting. Selections are made from nominations submitted by member coaches. Athletes must be seniors to be selected. These all-stars will not participate in the summer clinic all-star activities but will receive a certificate.
