The Devine Arabians Cross Country team consisting of Brooke Runyan, Espi Mendoza, Bri Bernal, Mari Murrillo, Abigail Whitaker, Bri Bowyer, and Victoria Whitaker along with Warhorse runner Colin Rogers will compete at the Class 4A Regional Meet in Corpus Christi this coming Monday. The 4A girls will run at 1:00pm followed by the 4A boys at 1:20pm.
Head Coach Khera Vay recapping the district season and what is in store for her runners in Corpus, “We chose the phrase ‘Live the Challenge’ to focus on this season. Each practice proved to be just that, a challenge, and the district race was no different. From a strong field of runners, to the human obstacles, and boring loop style course, the Devine runners rose up and accepted what was laid out before them.
They competed well; most athletes ran their personal best. I am very impressed with all 23 high school runners; they have been very dedicated throughout the entire season. More than their performances, I am proud of the way they represent Devine in the classroom, in the community, and on the course. They have truly become a family and have learned more about themselves in this short season then they thought possible.
As we progressed to the true championship part of the season, the varsity Arabians and Colin Rogers will continue to run at one of the most challenging courses in Texas, with its constant rolling inclines, quick switchback turns, and a slick grassy surface. Region 4 also holds some of the most talented athletes in the state, but with hard work this past week I feel we will accept this challenge like we have all others this season and will go out and make ourselves, the school and community proud.”
