Arabian and Warhorse Team Tennis beat LaVernia 13-6

Devine Team Tennis took to the courts at 9 am Saturday morning after a late Friday night, bad weather delayed football game. The team came through with another successful day on the courts in LaVernia bringing home their third victory.
Most of the matches were very evenly matched which made them last longer than usual. Several singles matches lasted over 2 hrs. in the grueling heat. After playing 7 doubles matches, Devine was up 6-1.
With only 6 courts to play on, the singles players did not finish until 2:30 pm. So, the kids that played both doubles and singles, which is most, where on the courts for 3-4 hours in the very hot and humid conditions. After singles finished Devine had won 7 more points, with an exciting win over La Vernia 13-6.
Out of 19 matches, 8 of the matches split sets and were decided by a 10 point tie-breaker, Devine winning 6 of those tie-breakers.
“Tennis is such a “mental” game. I am so proud of the way these kids fought through the heat”, said Coach Melanie Sostarich. “Several came back from losing the first set and winning the tie-breaker. Pure determination and a lot of heart! The kids rallied behind their teammates cheering them on all the way to the end. Team Tennis is so much fun and exciting to watch because every match matters.”
