Arabian and Warhorse cross country off to a running start

Devine Warhorse and Arabian Cross Country officially started practice Monday, July 30th. The athletes started with a time trial on Monday with most posting impressive times for this early in the season. No doubt, the majority of the runner’s dedication to the off-season running program played a vital role in the results of the initial workout of the 2018 season.
The runners continued their hard work throughout the first five days, finishing the week with a fun-run on Saturday morning. The annual scavenger hunt provided for a little friendly competition amongst the runners and, of course, extra mileage.
“There are currently 38 athletes participating which is a huge increase from previous seasons,” stated Head Coach Khera Vay. “The athletes started with a time trial on Monday with most posting impressive times for this early in the season. No doubt, the majority of the runner’s dedication to the off-season running program played a vital role in the results of the initial workout of the 2018 season. We are looking for great things from each athlete and as well as the entire team.”
Cross Country runners spend early mornings and sometimes early evenings out and about either running or biking on the streets of Devine. Just as the coaches remind runners to watch for vehicles and to run in the correct direction, we ask to please take extra precaution while behind the wheel during those times of the day.
Those participating in practices thus far include: Mari Murillo, Lorena Chavera, Isabel Osorio, Grace Singleton, Alexis Shook, Esperanza Mendoza, Alyssa White, Bri Bernal, Bri Bowyer, Victoria Gonzalez, Brooke Runyan, Maddie Mata, Kadence Yeats, Lacey Shook, Audrey Longoria, Kelli Geyer, Jenysse Good, Corinne Fowler, Yessika Garza, Shelby Joslin, Ismael Vera, Christian Osorio, Conner Radicke, Zackariuh Bocanegra, Roy Gutierrez, Donavon Camacho, Andy Cordova, Quintin Stanfield, Xavier Garza, Weston Byrd, Justin Contreras, Matthew Madrid, Zachary Alvarez, Michael Reichel, Marcus Espinosa, Chris Ortiz, Damian Martinez, and Gus Puente.
Colts and Fillys
The Devine Middle School Colts and Fillys will have a brief meeting on the first day of school during their specific athletic period. Coach Vay will provide a handout that includes meet schedules, practice times, and other vital information. Athletes that plan on participating in middle school Cross Country should start running now, if not already.
Physicals must be completed by August 27th and all runners should have proper attire, including shoes, by that time.
