Alvin Clarence Santleben

Alvin Clarence Santleben, Sr., of La Coste, passed away on April 18, 2018 in Castroville at the age of 96 years. He was born November 26, 1921 in La Coste, into a large family of ten children born to William and Frieda Weber Santleben. On April 15, 1947, he married Carmen “Johnnie” Tondre. They were blessed with sixty-five years of marriage, four children, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Alvin worked many jobs during his life, including Constable, Jailer, Chief Deputy and Medina County Sheriff, as well as farmer and rancher. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Carmen “Johnnie” Santleben; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Lil Santleben, William H. and Martha Santleben; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda and Claude Rogers, Inez Santleben, Ella and Elton Brieten, Clara and Amandus Muennink, Josephine and Al Vance, Laura and Leo Reicherzer; sister-in-law, Myrtle Santleben.
Survivors include his children, Alvin (Ani) Santleben, Jr. of Eagle Pass, Elaine (Steve) Persyn of Castroville, Dale (Victor) Cuppetilli of Castroville and Carl (Brenda) Santleben of La Coste; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd Santleben; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was Monday, April 23, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. Funeral Service was Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Castroville. Interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Alvin’s memory to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.
