A message from the Superintendent to the Devine ISD parents and community

 Dear Parents and Community,
We are all still shocked and saddened by the events that took place in Florida last week. This brings many emotions, concerns, and naturally the question of what we are doing as a school to keep our students safe. Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority.
Our campuses continue to implement and discuss safety and security protocols with updated information from the Texas School Safety Center. While we cannot discuss all our safety plans publicly, we want to assure you that our staff has been trained, and we conduct practice drills with local law enforcement. Also, each campus continues to use the Raptor System technology to sign in and check the background status of all visitors to the campus, which is another layer of protection.
We are fortunate to have a great working relationship with our local and county law enforcement officials. They do a tremendous service for us in helping patrol and monitor activities in the area to help keep our schools safe. Their knowledge on handling of emergency situations has been invaluable to improving our safety protocols.
The Region 20 Educational Service Center has been a great resource on safety. Just yesterday, we along with other school officials from around the San Antonio region attended a school safety briefing session. Officials from state and federal law enforcement agencies in San Antonio discussed resources, along with what they are doing in an effort to work with schools to ensure the safety of their students and staff.
Even with all the technology and training available to us, the best preparedness is a sense of awareness by all. Taking care of each other and looking out for one another is our best defense. We have great schools, and their safety is a responsibility for the entire community. If anyone has information or concerns, please contact your campus principal to make us aware and be proactive. We thank you again for entrusting us with your children, and for your continued support.
