8th grade Colts blank Lytle

Brady Hackebeil had a great game for the A team Colts.

The 8th Grade A and B Team Colts beat the Lytle Pirates 8-0 on Thursday, October 12th.
“Lytle’s 8thgrade was a different team than last year. These guys were a tough opponent and had a lot of size for a junior high team,” stated Coach Lon Cozby.
A Team Colts
Xavier Contreras was able to score on a 1 yd touchdown run in the second quarter. Brady Hackebeil pitched the ball to Contreras on the option play for an additional 2 points. The Colts won 8-0.
“Brady Hackebeil played an outstanding game all around. He ran the offense great and played multiple positions on defense, state Coach Cozby.” “This was a close game all the way to the end. It was a battle of field position; we had to punt 3 times. Zack Rico did a great job punting and all 3 got us out of trouble. Lytle put together one last drive in the 4th quarter but Payton Carr intercepted a deep pass to preserve not only the win, but the shutout.”
B Team Colts
On the B Team, Robert Russell’s pass to Haydn Brummage was stopped at the 1 yard line at the end of the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
In the second half Marcus Espinosa had a 2 yard touchdown run to score 6 points. Russell was able to pass to Charles Waddey who scored the 2 points which allowed Devine to walk away victorious 8-0.
“Marcus Espinosa and Iggy Cisneros led our running game. Robert Russell was able counter off the two running backs and either run himself or find open receivers. Our defense again saved the day. Nick Brandon had a huge interception stopping Lytle’s drive and helping to seal the victory. The big guys up front played another great game. Jacob Delaney added a sack and Jay Solis had some big hits on defense,” said Coach Cozby.
