58th Devine Fall Festival set for Nov. 3

The carnival begins Friday, Nov. 2 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 3.

Mark your calendars now for the 58th Annual Devine Fall Festival and Parade set for Saturday, November 3, 2018 sponsored by the Devine Chamber of Commerce. Activities include the annual parade, arts and crafts booths, food booths, and entertainment from 12 noon until 12 midnight.
The carnival kicks off the events on Friday, November 2 and carries on Saturday, November 3. The carnival will be set up on the grounds of the Devine Community Center and Driscoll Public Library.
The annual parade will start off the Saturday events at 10:00 am. The parade route will start at the corner of FM 2200 and Highway 173. As in years past, the line-up will be down FM 2200, along Arabian Way and into the DSAC parking lot. The parade will continue up Hwy 173, turn right onto S Teel (Hwy 132), and turn up College Ave and end at the Devine VFW Post. This year’s Grand Marshall is Matt Hawk.
Matt was born in South Texas and has been drawn to music as early as age six or seven. He is a country and western singer, performing all across South Texas. As an entertainer, using his talents to contribute to his fellow man is important to Matt. On that note, and apropos to the current rainy conditions in South Texas, the National Weather Service revealed its new public service announcement – one to which Matt contributed – aimed at making drivers more aware of the dangers of high water crossings. Matt Hawk created a rhyming, repetitive, and catchy tune using the trademarked words of Turn Around, Don’t Drown. He says his inspiration was the sad drowning of Alyssa Ramirez a few years ago. Touched by that tragedy, Matt used his guitar and vocal talent to create and donate the song which he believes will be a timely reminder. He says he wrote the jingle with the repetitious and upbeat spirit that attracts the younger generation and inspires children to listen and sing along.
Inside the Devine Community Center will be a variety of arts and crafts booths. There will not be an avocado showcase/cooking contest or seed spitting contest.
Outside there will also be arts and crafts and food vendors. The Cross Trail Outfitters will have a BB gun educational booth again this year.
The Shawnee Indian Dancers will start off the entertainment on center stage in the parking lot of Security Bank at 12:05 pm. Lytle’s own Matt Hawk will take the stage at 1:00 pm. Chris Salinas and the Wild Grass band are up at 3:30 pm. Also at 3:00 pm CFC Competitive Cheer Group will entertain. Lytles’ own Gabe Garcia will take the stage at 6:00 pm and then New Braunfels’ own The Scott Wiggins Band at 8:00 pm, followed by Devine’s Jeremy Richards Band at 10:00 pm.
